If I assemble a system myself, using the exact same name-brand COMPONENTS (such
as motherboard, HD, floppies, controller, etc.) that are used in big-name PC
makers like DELL and GATEWAY, would there be any difference on performance 
between those two systems?  

If there is, what are the causes to the difference?  The performance can be
said to be the speed and reliability of running programs, or just the Norton
Performance Index.
