This posting is going out to the news groups where I frequently read
and/or have seen requests for this information.

I am happy to announce the resurrection of the uiunix.ui.org archives,
but not of the uiunix.ui.org server.

Why is this a happy occasion?

Because this is the only place you used to be able to FTP the draft
X/Open Spec 1170 document defining UNIX. Or the DLPI or TPI interfaces.
Or CORBA. Or Distributed Filesystem documentation. Or a large number
of other technically very useful documents which are not otherwise
available in machine readable form.

I have offered several times to upload what I have been able to gather
together of the original archive contents as "free to a good home".

Both ftp.funet.fi and ftp.digiboard.com offered.

I will refuse direct requests to me for this information.

Here is the list of documentation I've "rescued" (with a lot of help
from others interested in preserving it):

=============================================================================
PUBLIC/dowg/corba.ps	OMG Common Object Request Broker Specification v1.1
			in encapsulated PostScript form.

PUBLIC/osapi/osapi.tar	Tar archive containing PostScript for 8/93 draft of
			Common API for UNIX-based Open Systems
			(this is the draft copy of X/Open SPEC 1170)

PUBLIC/dcwg/dfsreq.ps	Requirements for a Distributed File System, as
			developed by the UI Distributed Computing Work
			Group, in encapsulated postscript form.
PUBLIC/dcwg/dfswp.ps	A white paper describing the DFS requirements
			and their implications to end users in
			encapsulated postscript form.

PUBLIC/iwg/esmpreq.ps	Final draft of the UNIX International SVR4 ES/MP
			Internationalization Requirements in encapsulated
			postscript form.
PUBLIC/iwg/isomse.ps	Current draft of the ISO C Multi-byte Support
			Extensions Addendum in encapsulated postscript form.
PUBLIX/iwg/l10n.ps	Final draft of the UNIX International Guidelines
			for the Development of Localization Packages for
			UNIX System V.

PUBLIC/osi/dlpi.ps	Release 2.0.0 of the Data Link Provider Interface
			specification in postscript form. This API is
			expected to be revised early next year with some
			small changes, but represents a good specification of
			this low level kernel interface for communications
			drivers.
PUBLIC/osi/npi.ps	Release 2.0.0 of the Network Provider Interface
			specification in postscript form. This API
			provides a protocol independent kernel
			interface for communications drivers over
			connection oriented and connectionless
			protocols.
PUBLIC/osi/tpi.ps	Release 1.5 of the Transport Provider Interface
			specification in postscript form.

PUBLIC/dwarf.v1.1.0.mm	Final revision of DWARF Version 1 in troff format
			using the mm macros. All previous revisions are made
			obsolete by this revision.
PUBLIC/dwarf.v1.0.3.ps	Draft revision of DWARF Version 1 in encapsulated
			postscript format. This revision has been obsoleted
			by dwarf.v1.1.0.ps, the final revision of DWARF
			Version 1, but that document is unavailable.
PUBLIC/dwarf.v2.d4.ps	Draft 4 of the Dwarf Version 2 specification in
			encapsulated postscript format.
PUBLIC/dwarf.v2.0.ps	Industry review draft of Dwarf Version 2 in
			encapsulated PostScript format.
PUBLIC/dwarf.v2.0.indx.ps	Industry review draft index for Dwarf
				Version 2 in encapsulated PostScript format.
=============================================================================

In addition, I have a line on another net.packrat (besides me) who has
saved:

=============================================================================
PUBLIC/roadmap93.a4.ps	Final version of the 1993 UNIX International Roadmap
			in encapsulated postscript format. Caveat: this
			document assumes an A4 page size.
PUBLIC/stackfsreq.ps	Requirements for a Stackable Filesystem in
			encapsulated postscript form.
=============================================================================

This second set of documents is not yet available.

Some of the uiunix.ui.org files were mirrored from other locations;
specifically, the TET, ETET, and other automated conformance testing
testbed software is generally available on the net from places like
NIST in the US. NIST is the National Institute of Standards and
Technology, and is an agency of the Federal Government of the United
States of America.

Other files from this archive are still considered "lost". A full list
of the files formerly on this archive is included in the uploaded data
in both archive locations. If you have these files or know of a
location they may be obtained, please contact me.

Please check with the archive administrators as to when this archive
will be made publically retrievable; you will probably not be able to
download the information for several days yet. I would suggest not
bothering the sites with requests until after 14 Sep 94 (next Wednesday).

It's my hope that these archives will be mirrored by others so that the
important machine readable standards information in them will not be
lost.
