Closer but not quite there yet. I now have iexten turned off for the
modem port by an entry in the /etc/rc.local file like this:

	stty -f /dev/cuai01 -iexten
	stty -f /dev/cual01 -iexten

where cua01 is the port connected to my modem.

I now no longer have to type ^V^V to get a single ^V, but now I can't
get a ^O at all.

Next suggestion?

Thanks,
Phil
