Yes! I've had *exactly* the same sort of problem... I spent hours
with it and finally gave up and used the cua0x device instead.

I *thought* it was a problem with stty... I grabbed old copies
of it and tried to recompile.. ugh.  OK, so the problem is that
tty0x comes locked by default so I can't change it.  So how would
I unlock it? Or where is that information stored?  I couldn't find
any /etc/rc.serial on my 1.1.5.1 system.
