   What version of *BSD?

NetBSD-1.0 (Beta)

How long have you been doing it? (connecting to net, silly!) :-)

Months...

How stable has your system, or *BSD been?

Extremely.

What type of "uptime" have you had? (from provider)

I've had from a couple weeks to over a month uptime on my home
machine. The NetBSD-1.0_Beta machine in our office that serves two
SLIP/PPP connections, and connects us to the Internet via ethernet
recently had an uptime of 73 days before we shut it down to add more
hardware (my Hayes ESP card).

What type of service to you have? (ppp/slip, hourly, fulltime, etc..)

I run PPP; my office-mate runs SLIP. We both connect to the same
machine in our office for our gateway.

What does this sucker cost you?!? (startup, monthly, etc..)

It costs me the price of the two phone lines (being a university
employee and all, with my "own" office).

What provider to you use? (even if you're not "around here" (michigan))

I am my own provider. :-)

What's your hardware look like? (modem, DSU/CSU, router, your box?)

At home I have an ALR 386/33 EISA box with a 486DLC chip in it, w/17MB
RAM, plus lots of other stuff. The machine in the office that I share
with the other dude in my office is a Zenith 386/25 w/8MB RAM. Both
machines have a Hayes ESP serial card in them for my connection. I
have Practical Peripherals 28.8k v.fast external modems on both ends.
My office-mate has an internal 14.4k modem in the office machine (with
built-in 16550); dunno what he runs on his home end. I run my serial
port on both ESP cards at 115k and have never dropped a character,
even on the slooow 386/25. I was able to overrun the port at 115k
when I was using 16550's instead of the ESP's, but at slower speeds
(like <= 57.6k), the 16550's seemed to do ok. He runs his port at
57.6k.

All machines are running various vintages of NetBSD-1.0_Beta.

Even if you are not connecting up, but know a cheap local provider, that
would be cool! I'm looking for info on southwest lower michigan or
   northern indiana.

Iowa has an excellent commercial Internet provider (Iowa Network
Services -- infonet.net). But I'm pretty positive you can only make
use of their services from within Iowa. I think their price for a
SLIP line is like $40/month.

Any info, flames, etc. Please email! If there's enough interest
(and info!) I'll post a summary. (with permission of course... :-) )

Ooops... I just realized I hit the F key instead of the R key. Oh
well, I typed the whole damn thing, it's gonna get posted. ;-) I'll
cc: it to you anyway...
