Hi! I'm thinking about setting up a local "public access unix"
similar to netcom.com et.al, but just a local one host (horse? :-) )
operation. I want to use NetBSD, so would like some input from
others using NetBSD/FreeBSD that are connecting in to the internet.
(directly with PPP/SLIP, etc.) Things I'd like to know are:
What version of *BSD?
How long have you been doing it? (connecting to net, silly!) :-)
How stable has your system, or *BSD been?
What type of "uptime" have you had? (from provider)
What type of service to you have? (ppp/slip, hourly, fulltime, etc..)
What does this sucker cost you?!? (startup, monthly, etc..)
What provider to you use? (even if you're not "around here" (michigan))
What's your hardware look like? (modem, DSU/CSU, router, your box?)

Even if you are not connecting up, but know a cheap local provider, that
would be cool! I'm looking for info on southwest lower michigan or
northern indiana. (i'm 21 miles north of south bend i.e. notre dame)
I know a bit about merit's pricing etc, but maybe you know of a cheaper
service, or a cheaper service from merit, etc. I don't know a lot about
the market, but ~$20k/year for 56k seems just a wee bit pricey!!!
I'm not trying to run a big profit center.. just pay for *my* internet
connection and hardware to run NetBSD on!!

Any info, flames, etc. Please email! If there's enough interest
(and info!) I'll post a summary. (with permission of course... :-) )
