I'm another linux user on a 386sx notebook.  I've noticed very few
problems, and on my 60 meg partition, I've still got 10 available.
No, I don't keep the os sources on-line.

I do "real work" on my notebook (emacs, latex for text processing, and
gcc for hacking).  Love it!
