Do you have DES or some sort of encryption library installed on your
machine?

If so, you need the version of xdm compiled with DES support; if not,
go for the version of xdm without.

Cause of this mayhem, of course, is the dain-bramaged US export
control laws. Why, oh why, do they bother?
