THIS IS NOT TRUE!
1/ before 1.1.5 systems using ISA DMA devices (e.g. adaptec 1542)
could only access < 16MB. Bounce buffer support was added in 1.1.5 
(or was that 1.1?)

2/ systems using ISA Programmed IO only (e.g. IDE drives)
could access > 16MB in version1.0 (and 386bsd before that)

3/ obviously systems using VESA or PCI or EISA DMA
have access to > 16MB..


in other words.. as of 1.1.5 (1.1? I can't remember)
all FreeBSD systems can accesss > 16MB and most NetBSD
systems can do so as well, (though I'm not sure if they
have bounce buffer support for aha1542s yet..
