[This is a message from the GNU project.
            Please re-post wherever appropriate.]

Do you have a project in mind that you'd like to write?
Do you enjoy writing programs and feel satisfaction
in knowing your work is appreciated by large numbers of people?
Do you want to contribute something to the GNU project
after using GNU software for years?

If you do, you might want to volunteer for the GNU project.

As a volunteer, you can work at your own pace, in your own way. If
you produce something useful, we'll be grateful; if not, we won't
complain.

Most useful projects take time--don't expect to complete something in
just a few weeks. But there's no deadline. You can work on your
project part time, and when it's done, it's done.

We need more manuals as well as more programs. So people who can
write clear, well-organized documentation are very welcome volunteers.

To volunteer, send mail to gnu@prep.ai.mit.edu. Then you can talk
to the volunteer coordinators, who will send you the current task list
and coding standards.

The coordinators' role is to try to avoid duplication of effort among
volunteers. In order for them to do this, they need to know what
projects people are working on. If you are already working on a free
software project, and you have not yet told gnu@prep.ai.mit.edu, please
get in touch now.
