I installed a CMD-720 SCSI controller card in my VAX 8650 unibus.
It is controlling a single Micropolis 1936-21.
It works, but I am trying to size the partitions on the Micropolis drive.

The 8650 is running Berkeley 4.3

The controller works OK, but I little info. from the manufacturer about
configuring the disk partitions and drive specs such as cylinders and
tracks.

I am told that scsi disks use a variable number of tracks depending on the
distance from the spindle.

Do cylinder boundaries really matter on scsi drives?

This is what the manufacturer told me for HP computers:

Micropolis 1936-21
3.1 Gigabyte

Last LBA # 5903825
50 sectors per track
21 read/write heads
2811 total data cylinders
512 bytes per cylinder
5400 RPM
3022387200 total capacity

Shouldn't 5903825 * 512 = 3022387200
	  #blocks  #byte   #bytes
		    per
		    blk

But, for SUN, they told me:

ncyl = 2772
acyl = 3
pcyl = 2780
nhead=21
nsect=101
rpm=5400
bpt=51718
trks_zone=21
atrks=63
asect=11
size of c partition = 0-5879412

Does anyone have experience on VAXen running Berkeley?

What is the maximum partition size for Berkeley 4.3?

E-mail and/or post if you have any ideas.

Thanks,
