I have compiled ghostscript & ghostview from the Walnut
Creek FreeBSD 1.0.2 CD-ROM portstgz directory following
the README.FreeBSD notes. The only error that occurred
during any of this was that mkdir found an existing
directory during install. I did the make install as user
root. When I run ghostscript with the env set to the
default that the make install sets, I receive the
following error:

spitfire:>
spitfire:> setenv GS_DEVICE ljet2p.dev
spitfire:> gs ~/recsrch.ps
Initializing... Unknown device: ljet2p.dev
spitfire:>

looking through the source code, it appeared that the
string being searched for was "ljet2p" instead of
"ljet2p.dev", so I changed GS_DEVICE and tried to
run the program again. This time the error was:

spitfire:> setenv GS_DEVICE ljet2p
spitfire:> gs ~/recsrch.ps
Initializing... Unrecoverable error: rangecheck in %set_screen_continue
Operand stack:

    0.200454 false --nostringval--

and when I run ghostview the error reported is

Unrecoverable error: rangecheck in %set_screen_continue
Operand stack:
    0.0546875 true --nostringval--

I am running a 386/25 without coprocessor, 8M RAM, 25M swap
with XFree86 working great.
Does anyone have a clue?
