I had exactly the same reactione when I tried to boot a friends machine
with a syscons-kernel (build under FreeBSD-1.1-RELEASE). When I changed
to the GENERICAH-kernel which did include pccons everything worked fine
Unfortunateley I can't give You more information on the hardware because
I don't have the machine at hand.
