If your mailer is not setgid-mail and your spool directory is not 775 like
that :

drwxrwxr-x 2 bin mail 512 Jul 11 21:03 /var/mail/

Then no one except root can write in it. Either you put your spool
directory with 1777 (BAD !) or you change Pine to behave with a setgid bit
to mail.

But maybe Pine won't allow that (I don't run it) so you'll have to check
Pine sources and READMEs.
