did you change 'NFSERVER=NO' to 'NFSSERVER=YES' on center ?
that results in starting mountd, ... and other progs from /etc/rc.

in /etc/exports you must specify that partitions on center, which you
want to mount from alif (after editing exports-file 'kill -1' on
mountd to invoke a reread on /etc/exports)

in rc.local start the rpc.pcnfsd (from sun V2).
there a also a setup-file for pcnfsd in /etc.
i don't setup rpc.pcnfsd in /etc/services and /etc/inetd.conf, because
i start it manually from /etc/rc.local !

it works fine (but slow on ne2000: 90k write, 140k read) with
nfs024-package + wattcp-driver-packag for the MS-DOS-site
(both shareware or public domain).

Hope this help and
