I just helped someone installing FreeBSD 1.1R. They had the same problem I
did. I think, IMHO, that a part should be added to the FAQs, under the part
about troubles with installation.
 
Here's the deal:
 
When installing 1.1R, the system either hangs or displays a strange message
(and then hangs) after booting, right after the message:
changing filesystem to fd0a (or something like that)
 
This is probably a bad kcopy floppy disk. Make another, and reinstall.
