Usually a mismatch between the disk parameters for the BIOS and FreeBSD.
What are the no cyls,heads,sectors reported from FreeBSD when it boots
and the BIOS? Also, does your BIOS have a LBA option and is it set or
not.

disk an eventually gave up. It might work on different disks though.
