After ftp-ing the binary set, I set the tmp dir, change there and
extract bin. All appears to go well, for a while. Then, the screen
gets covered by graphics chars, and I get blown back to #.

Anything I try to run gives me more graphics and other messages:

[graphics]: not found
Cannot map ld.so
ld.so failed

I do an ls and get

[graphics]: not found
ls: 10: Syntax error: "(" Expected

Similar things with most other commands, including rm, vi, cat.....

This is installed on a _very_ vanilla 486/33 clone, 16Mb mem, IDE disk,
AMI bios; a platform I use for compatibilty testing. Disk parms are as
right as I can make them. All shadowing and caching is disabled.

I haven't a clue. Ideas, anybody? Thanks,
