There must also be some archives named

	XFree86-2.1.1-xdm-config.tar.gz
	XFree86-2.1.1-xdm-des.tar.gz		(if you have secrdist installed)
	XFree86-2.1.1-xdm-nodes.tar.gz		(if not secrdist inst)

Extract these archives and make a symbolic link either from xdm-des to xdm
or from xdm-nodes.

This should work ...
