    SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR / PROGRAMMER ANALYST at U. C. Davis 

The U. C. Davis Department of Mathematics is looking for a full time systems 
administrator to manage the Department's computer facilities.  This is a career 
position in which the successful candidate will have considerable independent 
decision making authority over the Department's facilities.  U. C. Davis is the 
third largest UC campus in terms of student enrollment and the Mathematics Dept 
is one of the largest departments on campus.  The department has a large and
diverse installation of computer equipment used for both research and 
instruction.

The town of Davis is a pleasant community of about 50,000 (including students)
with a good K-12 public school system.  Davis is 1 - 1 1/2 hours from both the
San Francisco bay area and the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  It is well known for
the number of its residents who use bicycles as a primary mode of transportation
and for the variety of bike paths for getting around the town.  A short job 
description follows.

Provide programming, systems analysis, systems administration for a complex
multi-platform computer environment (SUN, SGI, UNIX-based workstations,
NEXT, Apple, IBM PC Compatible) and network facilities in an academic
department.  Extensive knowledge of C, C++, FORTRAN, CSH/SH, MAKE, TCL/TK,
dBaseIV.  Knowledge of TeX, Matlab, and Mathematica desirable.  Effective
oral and written communication skills and experience in developing training
programs for user community.  Work occasional overtime, including
nights/weekends.

The University of California, Davis, provides excellent benefits.  Salary
range is $2858.33 - $4291.67 per month.  A Programmer Supplemental form is
