Daring to challenge the will of the almighty Leviam00se, Russell LaVelle
(xperts@infi.net) had the courage to say:
: We have a Mediavision 16 sound card with a cd-rom drive attached... Ar there
: drivers for this? Where can I get the driver? Does it come with installation
: instructions?

FreeBSD doesn't currently support accessing CD-ROM drives through the
interfaces provided on sound boards. The only way to access a CD-ROM with
FreeBSD currently is to use either a SCSI CD-ROM drive (which means you
also need a supported SCSI host adapter such as an Adaptect 1542C, Buslogic
or Ultrastor 14F or 34F) or with the 'mcd' driver, which is for Mitsumi
CD-ROM drives. (I'm guessing you're asking about FreeBSD based on an
earlier message I saw from you asking about the Walnut Creek CD-ROM.
I'm not certain, but I believe the same limitation is present in NetBSD
as well.)

As for the sound board itself, FreeBSD supports the SoundBlaster,
SoundBlaster Pro (not sure about the SoundBlaster 16), ProAudioSpectrum
and Gravis Ultra Sound cards. I don't know if the Mediavision 16 is
compatible with any of these. If it is, then you should be able to
build a kernel with sound support and use it for sound, but you
can't use the CD-ROM controller on it at all. Yet. If you have
a FreeBSD system available, check out the sources for the sound driver
under /usr/src/sys/i386/isa/sound.

Hope this helps.

-Bill
