			X11R6 and XFree86 3.0

X11R6, released on May 2, 1994, contains XFree86 3.0. However, XFree86 3.0
is not likely to be a very useful release to anyone, and should be considered
beta-test software. Many significant features for many of the supported
operating systems did not make it into the R6 core release, and for those
operating systems that did get fully merged, the R6 code is currently
significantly less stable than X11R5.

Our intention all along, and as has been stated in several different places,
is for the X11R6 contributed software distribution to contain the version
of XFree86 fully integrated with X11R6. We still intend this to be the
case.

We advise that only people directly involved in X development attempt to
use X11R6 in place of X11R5 at this point in time. We do not intend to
release binary packages until after X11R6 contrib; anyone that does so
independent of XFree86 will be responsible for supporting those users. The
code simply is not ready for the non-technical, non-X-aware user,
protestations of the gurus notwithstanding.
