Yes, and VLB is definitely the way to go if you only have a choice
between VLB and ISA.  But, if you can buy a new motherboard, EISA and
PCI are true bus-mastering designs which give much better arbitration
on a busy bus.  VLB is essentially just a fast, wide ISA bus, which
means it works great for a video card, but doesn't handle a lot of bus
contention terribly well.

So, definitely go VLB if you don't have EISA/PCI.  But if you're in
the market for a new motherboard, seriously look at EISA or PCI
boards.
