Summary: Where to get information about BSD
Keywords: BSD, problems, need help, where to look

Q: I have a problem or need some information about FreeBSD/NetBSD etc.
   What can I do?
A: Follow the steps below.

1.	Ask people in your local area to help you, especially if they have
the same or a similar setup.

2.	Look through the Frequently-Asked Question (FAQ) postings in the
	newsgroup comp.os.386bsd.announce. If you're having a problem, it's
likely other people have had the same problem. If the FAQs have
expired, goto the archive site minnie described in point 8 below,
	to get them.

3.	Look through all your local Usenet news in the comp.os.386bsd.*
newsgroups. Again, other people may have had the same problem
and posted an answer to a newsgroup.

4.	Search the Usenet news archive on minnie for relevant postings.
Minnie has the last 2 1/2 years of Usenet news on the *BSD flavours.
There are two ways to search the archive:

	  - via the WorldWide Web, using the URL http://minnie.cs.adfa.oz.au/
and going into the BSD-news document.

	  - via an archie-like interface by telnetting to
minnie.cs.adfa.oz.au, logging in as bsdnews and typing help.

5.	Finally, if you haven't found an answer, post a news article in
one of the comp.os.386bsd.* newsgroups. Make sure your subject
line describes your problem well. Something like `I Need Help with
FreeBSD' isn't very descriptive. Make sure you choose a relevant
newsgroup. The current comp.os.386bsd.* newsgroups are:

	comp.os.386bsd.announce:	Announcements about *BSD, moderated
	comp.os.386bsd.apps: Talk about application programs
comp.os.386bsd.bugs Talk about bugs in *BSD & applications
	comp.os.386bsd.development:	Talk about *BSD development
	comp.os.386bsd.questions:	Questions about *BSD etc.
	comp.os.386bsd.misc: Everything else.

Probably the questions newsgroup is the most appropriate, unless
you think you've hit a bug in an application or the system, in which
	case use the bugs newsgroup.
