I didn't believed it but with the other kernel it really works!
How silly I was to think the install docs (INSTALL.TXT) are correct,
requesting to use the Adaptec kernel for BusLogic ... <grumble>
(Anyway, many thanks to the both Michaels who suggested the right
thing!)

However, lucky me, there is a new problem: In app. 9 of 10 cases,
the system boots from floppy but then hangs after switching the
root device to floppy with "stray intr 7". In the remaining case, it
goes a little further but finally hangs with the same problem.

Again, I spent hours experimenting with the parallel port, and yes,
I read the FAQ. However, its recommendation to ignore this problem
isn't very helpful if the system hangs.

I'll give *BSD a last chance before I'll trash it ...
