In article <2nmeb4$ro@menudo.uh.edu>, cosc19v2@menudo.uh.edu (cosc19v2) says:

| In fact, if the instructions are given correctly, I can do it, but
| in case of *BSD, most the instructions are either outdated, incorrect, or
| not clear.

You've not used SLS, I take it. :-|

BSD's development follows a different model from Linux's; updates happen
differently as a result, and synchronization differs. But each model has
advantages, just as each has disadvantages; trying to claim that one is
*ultimately* superior is nonsensical, because it depends entirely on the
intended use.

| In fact, I installed it a week ago freshly, and it went very
| smooth. I think that the total installation procedure was much more
| simpler than SUN workstation's case.

Brought up Slackware 1.1.1 on the Twit last week; went quite nicely. Since I
have a spare partition on the Twit I may try FreeBSD off the TA CDROM just to
see how it compares.

| But when I hooked it up with network, I felt that the network performance
| was not really satisfactory. I felt it quite sluggish than even SUN3s.

Net-0.2 isn't quite warp speed. I've got net-0.3.2 waiting for me to finish
experimenting with "stock" Linux 1.0.5. (For the BSDers listening in: there
have been at least two ports of the BSD IP stack to Linux, but both that I
heard about were reported to be extremely jury-rigged and even less stable
than the native code, due to differing models of memory management (that is,
low-level differences not easily smoothed over). Don't be *too* judgemental
about Linux networking: there is method to the apparent madness.)
