I have just installed the latest FreeBSD binaries on my
486DX2 system. I have a supra 14.4k internal modem setup
as DOS COM2. My question is, how do I set up tip and/or
the special device files to work? If I do a cold boot,
FreeBSD finds sio00 and sio01. In the /dev directory, as root
I have run MAKEDEV sio1 which updates the tty01 special file.
I set up the /etc/remote file to use /dev/tty01. But when I
use tip, it waits for a few seconds and then says "link down"
and exits. The modem never tries to dial.
In the FAQ it says to set up tip for com01, but I have no
/dev/com01 file and using MAKEDEV com1 just sets the tty01
files so that it doesn't work at all.
I have changed the owner of tty01 to uucp.dialer.
One other strang thing is that if I type reboot instead of
cold booting with the reset button, FreeBSD reports sio01 not
found.
What am I missing? Thanks.
