I'm running BSD/386 on two machines, 1 with 4 MB the other with 16.  I
don't run an X server on the 4 MB machine and compiles are
considerably slower (but it is also a 40 MHz '386, the 16 MB machine
is a 50 MHz '486) but it runs fine.

My personal feeling is that you want at least 8 MB, unless you run X
then 16 or more is nice.  But with 4 MB it beats a lot of Vaxen I've
known.
