Running FreeBSD 1.0.2 (Walnut Creek) / XFree86 w/XView

Well, under the advice of the local sysadmin, I dropped my quest for getting xrn to work,
and focused my attention to xvnews. I grabbed the source from sunsite, and hoped that a
toplevel xmkmf and make would do the trick. Reality struck. I fought with the code
for about an hour. gcc didn't like some varargs stuff and some enum array casts. I had
to blatantly comment out some things that the linker couldn't find (named compile, step,
and gio_expand_path). But, it seems to be working. Has anyone gotten a clean make
out of this thing?

Posted from a FreeBSD/XFree86 machine using xvnews across a 9600 overly escaped term link to
school's nntpserver. Talk about uphill engineering! Oh no! not the call waiting beep!
