Nope,  the difference was due to netbsd + shared libraries. The system
was very snappy with netbsd-0.8. At any rate, whatever it was it now
seems that it has gone away. BTW: my old system had a 1542c and the 
reason why I don't use anymore is because I purchased a P66.
