[ I posted this a week ago, and haven't gotten an answer yet. ]

I always wondered how BSD was written.

They started with 32V source, then added things to it, then started
replacing the 32V source.

When they were replacing it, how much exposure did the programmer have
to the 32V source code? Did they have it sitting on their desk, or did
someone look at the 32V source and explain what is was supposed to do,
and someone else coded it? Or did they just pull it up in an editor and
start hacking it up?
