This weekend I tried to install FreeBSD 1.0e to test out the PPP
server Networking is working on. I have met with rather limited
success as I was unable to even get it do dial the modem. While I
realize Portable PPP is in like alpha stage, I would have appreciated
more in the way of scripts or some directions (I stole some out of the
NetBSD-current's source distribution). Anyway, I don't think it is
even the PPP's fault. I have some strange problems with my serial
ports -- whenever I started up Kermit and "set line /dev/tty00", it
would hang until I pressed "<Ctrl>C" but then it worked like a charm.

[ I should note, the SIO drivers are MUCH MUCH better than the old COM
drivers that came with 386BSD 0.1! Hats off to whoever did the new
drivers! ]

I think "pppd" was running into the same problem as kermit -- it would
hang on open'ing or lock'ing the device. However, I couldn't send it
the INT like I could Kermit. Also, I recompiled the kernel with
"BIDIR" but that didn't seem to do anything (when I "comcontrol
/dev/tty00 bidir" things seemed to get worse). Any ideas?

Thank you,
