Please allow me to add another data point to this problem. I had the
strayintr 7 boot hanging problem on my system (486DX33, 16M RAM, 256K
cache, 2 IDE drives, no network, Diamond Speedstar SVGA, 1540B IRQ 11
nothing connected on the SCSI bus although I plan to connect a tape
drive).

I had NetBSD 0.8 running great on my system so I decided to upgrade to
NetBSD 0.9. I followed the directions in the README for an upgrade. I
used the kc-aha-09p1.fs kernel copy floppy (note the p1, that's
important). Everything went exactly as expected until I copied the
kernel to the harddisk and rebooted off the hd (wd0a). Oops, strayintr
7 strikes me out. I try again a couple more times with no success and
then go to bed. Next day, I see the message from the guy who solved
the problem by turning off his external cache so that night, I turn
off the external cache, no success, turn off internal cache, no
success, yank 1540 out of box, no success. In desparation, and seeing
that I also have the non-patched version of kc-aha-09.fs, I try
copying that kernel to the hd and rebooting, BINGO! Something in that
patch is causing me problems. I looked at the patch and it is all
network driver code but I don't have a network card so I'm pretty much
stumped.

Oh well, at least I have NetBSD 0.9 running happily on my system.

Hope this helps.
