the new code in FreeBSD-current has a sample program that utilises the 
scsi generic interface ( see scsi(1) & scsi(4))

the sg interface was never really fully implimented in a released form,
though Peter Dufault had it working on his system.

for the new stuff in FreeBSD 1.1 when it comes out, it will be fully
supported (though there is more to do... peter?)
