After installing XFree86-2.0, with the xdm-des option, the machine seemed
to continue functioning o.k. I made the suggested changes to the rc.local
to start the xdm on bootup. While working on the Xconfig file, the
machine rebooted (unplanned) and came back up went through all of the
startup untill it hit xdmstarting local daemons followed by the date and
then the screen flashes every few seconds like it is stuck in a cycle. If
I boot to floppy and mount the hard drive, i can comment out the lines in
the rc.local dealing with xdm and everything works fine. I have also
tried reinstalling the xdm archive with no luck. Can someone please
explain what xdm is and what i need to do to correct this problem.
tnx
