I recently tried to use tip to dial out to a BBS, but I got some
strange behaviour. According to the status lights, it initalised the
modem and sent it the dialing string. I then heard the modem pick up
the line and touch-tone dial the first digit and then stop. (It's a
touch-tone line, so this is fine.) Then it just sits there.

Anybody know what's up here?

Also, is there a way to get tip to just connect to the serial line
directly, without sending anything to the modem, so I can dial the
modem myself?
