i checked out some of the legal mumbojumbo in ftp.bsdi.com:/usl. not a
pretty sight. i'm particularly amused at the irony of my own situation
with IRIX: i wanted to port bsd to the indy partly to have open source
instead of a proprietary OS. in fact, SGI is named in (at least) one
of the documents as guilty of swiping bsd code for use in IRIX in
flagrant violation of the licensing agreement.

i hope hope hope this situation gets fixed sooner rather than too
late. i mean, seriously, if the public perceives the world of UNIX as
not only conceptually challenging, but also replete with just the kind
of legal wrangling no one wants to be near, then they'll use
windowsNT. no one in their right mind wants that.
