While we are talking about ports, what is the status of the sparc
port? Is it stable enough to install? Can it mount SunOS formatted
   '4.2' partitions?

It mounts SunOS partitions. It even uses SunOS disk labels.
It can run most SunOS programs too. Very few fail, ie. ps, w, netstat.

Is there any mailing list, or FAQ someplace that I could monitor its
   status on?

port-sparc@sun-lamp.cs.berkeley.edu. As with all NetBSD mailing lists,
send mail to majordomo@sun-lamp.cs.berkeley.edu to subscribe.

I'm not quite ready for a release. I'm trying to get one out in the
next month, but thus far scsi devices have not been kind to me.
