Subject: XF86_S3 doesn't reset screen properly on exit

In short: I just got a spiffy new S3 based graphics adaptor, and the
accelerated X server doesn't reset the screen properly on exit.

OS: FreeBSD-1.0.2 (patched from GAMMA to EPSILON to RELEASE to 1.0.2)
    kernel uses pccons console driver
X: XFree86-2.0 from freebsd.cdrom.com
Adaptor: Orchid Fahrenheit 1280+ VLB (S3-805)

With my old ET4000 based card, the SVGA server would reset the
console to its original text mode on exit. With the new Orchid card
and the XF86_S3, on exit the console is put into an illegible state
consisting of wavy/grainy vertical lines through which the expected
text is vaguely recognizable.

Is there a workaround or a program that I can run to properly reset
the video mode on exit?

Thanks in advance,
