Hi,
I am running FreeBSD-1.0R and XFree-2.0 with fvwm. I logged on 2nd virtual
console (SYSCON) ie /dev/ttyv1, and starts X running fvwm.

I have a few : xterm -T "Su root" -e su -l root running on different virtual
display within /dev/ttyv1 installing some softwares and kermitting out. After
some hours of works, when try to xterm -T "Su root" -e su -l root, I got the
message : Error: Can't open display: :1.0. All of my xterms (except the ones
I started off from .xinitrc) are started off from fvwm popup, and I have never
need to worry about $DISPLAY. Also, if I start off some other X programs from
those xterms (su -l root ones), I have to set my $DISPLAY to :1.0, but not
the full form of lespoir:1.0, where lespoir is my hostname.

And then I switch back to my xterms started off from .xinitrc, and attempted
to run some X programs from them, and this time I also got the errors :
Can't open display: :1.0, and I have to explicitly set $DISPLAY to lespoir:1.0,
before any X programs will run.

I wonder if anyone has this problem before? I know this might not be a big
problem to many people, but I am just worry about if there might be dangerous
bugs lying somewhere. Is there a possible explanation for this happenning ?

  Thanks in advance!
