I'm trying to make a selection among the free BSD's out there, but the
king of the hill seems to change so fast I've lost track.

I'd like to hear from anyone who can summarize the major differences
between the free BSD products and the development efforts. Here's an
example of what I'd like to see:

386bsd:

Net2/tahoe implementation, has lagged behind with device drivers and
development activity has nearly come to a halt.

FreeBSD:

Net2/reno implementation, includes support for shared libraries, lots
of DOS support, but is too "bleeding edge".

NetBSD:

Net2/tahoe implementation, best X11 and network support, moderate
stability, poor installation.

*Note* the examples given are only examples. Any resemblence to fact
is purely coincidental.
