Can you tell me a little more about your setup?  A number of people
are happily blatting "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that"
through their SoundBlaster, GUS's and ProAudio Spectrum cards without
any problem (granted, this just tests /dev/audio, but that at least
SHOULD work for you!).  Not good.  I suspect something in your setup.
