Hello all,

Is there any general wisdom regarding optimal CMOS setings?

A description of the terminology would help: for example,
what's the difference between "write buffer" and "write back"
with respect to cache operation. If there's a FAQ on this
subject I'd greatly appreciate pointers. A book would be nice
too!

The machine in question is a nameless Taiwanese clone,
VESA LB, 486DX-50 with an AMI BIOS. It's a two-chip
motherboard, using one 82c3480 and one 82c3490. If
someone can identify the maker of the chips it would
be a tremendous help (Intel says the numbers aren't
theirs).

thanks for reading!
