sometimes when my slip link goes down, I can't kill the slattach
(even as root!) and I must re-boot the system to re-connect to
the net.  to make matters worse, it doesn't happen every time.

one thing I notice is that 'ps' shows a state of "PE" where the
"E" means it's trying to exit (but assumably, can't).

any ideas?
