For me, the biggest difference is, that i have to pay per sent AND received
kilobyte of mail. So even if i'd like to join a mailing list, i sometimes
simply can't afford it.

So i would like it if people use more news than mailing lists in general, 
it's obvious that if there are VERY specialized subjects discussed a mailing
list is more appropriate.
