Complete X on a sparc : 3.5 hours
Complete X on a 486DX50 : 1.9 hours.

One thing wich really increases throughput is the bsize-field in the disklabel.
Increasing it from 4 to 8 kb -> 240 kb read-speed increased to over 800 kB.
