Be sure that you have the line 'pseudo-device	ppp	2' in your
kernel config file.  (2 is for 2 interfaces, more or less depending on
your system.)

I assume that /dev/tty00 is configured correctly, since you claim you
'tip' to it.  I start pppd up with:

	pppd sio01 19200

It works well and is that simple.
