Due to the recent discussion about 386bsd 0.1 I apologize for being out
of date, but I just got 386BSD 0.1 off of ftp.iastate.edu and have
installed it on my machine. Unfortuantely I'm having problems getting
certain things running. A communications package would be nice. I have
aquired the cku189.tar.Z source code for C-Kermit. It uncompresses
easily enough, but when I go to make it (make 386bsd) it only gets
through a few files telling me I'm missing utsname.h. I am slowly
making the conversion from MS-DOS and MS-Windows 3.1 to a real operating
system (UNIX in whatever form I can find it) and am still learning to do
porting, system administration, etc. Where do I get this file, learn
how to make it, or get by without it? The makefile for Kermit claims it
compiles on 386bsd-0.1 with no problems. Does it have to do with these
patches I've been hearing about? Where do I get those?

A related question: I have a 14.4Kbps, V.42bis modem on com3, IRQ 5.
Where do I learn to make a device for it, or do I have to if I use
Kermit?

Any and all help is appreciated. Book titles and other resources to teach
me how to do things like this are always appreciated.

Oh, and being new to this group I don't know common practices on this
group. Other groups, unfortunately, like to flame people like me. If a
flame is all you have to offer, please keep it to yourself.
