: BTW: my machines are hardly identical: isa+et4000+esdi vs. eisa+s3+scsi.

I don't know what is going on here! I tried 386bsd 0.1 (with various
patches from various patchkits) and was unable to get a reasonably stable
system for my use. I tried NetBSD 0.8 and had similar problems (one
of them turned out to be a hardware problem with my platform and another
turned out to be a F*** Up on Intel's part as to the choice of UART).
I've been using FreeBSD since the GAMMA release and have had NO major problems.
I haven't crashed the system since the start. I've rebuilt kernals and
tried to implement some stuff which is not well documented, BUT the system
is UP and running for days/weeks at a time! I'm even using PPP to connect
to the Internet (via my SPARC at work). FreeBSD is NOT trouble-free, but
does work quite well for my purposes.

As to the 'change the news groups' stuff. Why insert new confusion?
C.O.386bsd.* works quite well as a support medium for BOTH current '386
implementations of *BSD! Leave it the hell alone!

My configuration is: isa+atiVGAXL(with busmouse)+SCSI(632mb disk, 150mb tape)

Works QUITE well thank you!
