Hmm, I've got a version of xv3.0 compiled for FreeBSD, but I got it from
someone else, and I dont' have any tiff files to check it on.

FreeBSD is much better about such things.  (And even gcc2 isn't too
bad when compiled with the gnumalloc routines).

See above.  I suspect highly that if you can't compile it on your
machine, you could probably find a nice FreeBSD person to compile it for
you. *grin*

I'm not sure if you tried my upgrade script, but I just squashed the
last of the bugs in it last week.  It now works correctly with the
EPSILON release, and will only require one slight change for the final
release.  (The directory structure has changed a teeny bit, so I need to
upgrade the mtree files to the final versions)

It actually WORKS in upgrading your 386BSD machine to FreeBSD.
